Fungal skin infections — ringworm, Malassezia dermatitis — are among the most common skin conditions in Indian dogs. India's year-round humidity, especially during monsoon, creates ideal conditions for fungal growth. PawCheck screens for them free.

Fungal skin infections in dogs come in two main types: ringworm (dermatophytosis — caused by a fungus, not a worm) and Malassezia (yeast) dermatitis. Both thrive in India's humid climate and are highly prevalent during and after the monsoon season.
Ringworm: circular bald patches with scaly, crusty edges — often on the face, paws, or ears. Malassezia: greasy, scaly skin with a musty smell, redness, and itching — particularly in skin folds, ears, and between the toes.
India's monsoon season spikes fungal skin infections significantly. Wet coats, humid environments, and reduced sun exposure create ideal fungal growing conditions. Post-monsoon months see the highest clinic presentations for fungal skin in India.
Labrador Retriever, Cocker Spaniel, Basset Hound, and Indie dogs. Dogs with skin folds (Pug, Bulldog) are at high risk for Malassezia in fold areas. Young puppies and immunocompromised dogs are most vulnerable to ringworm.
